Originally from Madrid, Pilar Valera has lived in Kendal since 1989. She is a qualified teacher with many years experience of teaching Spanish in state and independent schools, the adult education sector, including business English in Spain and privately. Her students have ranged from primary school children right up to adults in their 90s! She loves to generate enthusiasm in her learners about Spain and its language, history and culture.
Neil Stanley is a qualified teacher who has taught in schools for many years but equally enjoys teaching adults. He was a primary Deputy Head in Cumbria and maintains a keen interest in education policy and practice. He enjoys developing active, inquisitive learners who really engage with the language and aren’t afraid to ask questions! He currently teaches Spanish for beginners and also ESOL to refugees in South Cumbria. Neil believes passionately in the value of learning languages as a tool to greater understanding of different cultures.
